When Spartans set out for battle from their villages, the words of their mothers would burn in their ears. These words weren’t a guide to protect themselves...instead, they were a cutting reminder that their fellow soldier needed them. In the Spartan fighting style of a shield wall, each soldier’s shield was held in a fashion to protect their fellow soldier. Each warrior relied on the fellow besides him to protect him as he protected the next comrade. The warning from the mothers wasn’t to defend yourself! They called for them to protect their brothers and not themselves. With this set we saluted the true teammates and comrades . We solute you who would die before dropping your shield.
